Throwing myself into the world of leathercraft has inevitably found me making choices about the leather I use and how and where that leather has been sourced.
As I gain knowledge into the world of tanneries, I find myself working backwards to understand the journey from cow to leather. I too am on a journey and hope to soon be using leather from British tanneries, sourced from animals grazing sustainably on British pastures.
Leather is a 'waste' product of the food industry and I was stunned to hear how much of it is thrown away despite it having such potential as a material for endless items in the lives of humans. In my workshop I aim to use every part of the hide that I receive. When sending out orders, I reuse envelopes and packaging so don't be alarmed if the postal packaging is a bit scruffy!
